Hi
Can you save chained patterns with your sequence in the MCC ?
cheers
Kev

Hi,
Pattern Chains can't be saved in the BSP or in the MCC.
It is actually not on the dashboard to add the feature to save them.

Well I for one cast out my vote for saving chains as part of a project . Kinda moves it up in to song wrighting territory .
-
Well mr ARTURIA I think it should be on the dash board
and also a way to switch between wait for pattern / yes /no in the BSP rather than keep having to go to the mcc to do it
cheers

Actually imagine my pattern is : 1-2-3-3-7-8-9-1-3-3-9-10-11-12-13-9 . Saving it would be vital, even if the BSP is live oriented . ???

Looks like the votes are slowly coming in for A SAVE WITH PATTERNS CHAINED
keep the votes coming then perhaps ARTURIA will add this in the next update
cheers

First, thanks for the update. Second, it's dissapointing (but all too common) that music hardware and software seem to be regularly released in beta state. Using customers to QC hardware or software has become an industry practice. Until we all stop tolerating this, it will continue. Finally, I do agree that saving chained patterns would be a very welcome addition for both composition and live performance applications.
-
+1 for saving chains with projects
+1 for switching wait pattern from bsp and making it save on a per pattern basis
-
+1 for sure.

-1 or if you add this feature please add an option to turn it off completely.
Don't want Song Mode. I am Song Mode.

The existence of the ability to save a sequence would somehow be a problem?? It would just be an option, to use it or not- do you think they would have it automatically save everything all the time or something?
I'm 100% not interested in that feature, and it doesn't sound like Arturia has any plans to implement it, but if they did, I'd be happy for the people asking for it...
-
Didn't say that. Not smart to read in things that aren't printed. Causes baseless rage. Go ahead and add it. Just want an option to turn it off. Freedom of choice. Really would like some other features added before this.
-
The chained is in BSP memory somehow. It would be easy to dump it in the MMC from memory. I can't imagine a way to do it in the standalone mode.
-

Yes, what is also disapointing and strange is the fact that people accept this practice as normal, saying thanks when after several updates the products they've bought begin to work as expected and described on specs and manuals. Companies like Arturia release buggy products > costumers test them > they report the bugs > 6 moths later Arturia iron some issues > costumers say thanks. People are strange.
-
+1 for pattern chain save feature !
Filterseducer, what I find Strange is to see people who have sent back their BeatStepPro keeping on trolling a forum as a hobby....

Ah!, so in order to post on a forum you have to own the related product. You are Strange (in caps, as you like buddy)
-
Not Strange, just trying to find what your motivation is. Is it out of disappointment ? A user forum is for prospective buyers or users.
If you stick here, is it because you want to see where it is heading before buying one again ?
For sure it's weird to release a product as unfinished as BSP was on launch.
Sure we are betatesters. Sure my BSP nearly finished in the bin a couple months ago...
I was so pissed off too about the bugginess of the BSP !!
But I can tell you that the latest FW is much more satisfactory. Less bugs and more features to chew.
Maybe it is time for you to get another one (or a buddy that has one) to test and see why people say thank you now.... ;-)
-
Not Strange, just trying to find what your motivation is.
Well, if you would have asked me that question clearly instead of calling me a troll (love this new kinda words + online language) maybe i'd have gave you an answer. The rest of your post is about statements that you think are right. My buddys usually have good gear, i'll ask them is they got a BsP.
Play good music.

+1 saving chained patterns. Essential - I'm wondering why it wouldn't be top of the to-do list?!
-
+1 for chain saving.
Also, when improvising it would be really useful to be able to link all of the sequencers to a single chain, rather than always having to build them separately for each sequencer (having PRST LINK still work when playing back a chain of sequences seems like the simplest way).
-
In defense of arturia chaining is a complete 'freebie extra' not mentioned anywhere in original manual or marketing. They have to balance ease of use with functionality, and we're already seeing functions/button combos that you'll need to remember or write down because theyre beyond the original design spec.
if chains are savable, you're probably then going to want a way to manually change and edit patterns without erasing the whole chain, so you need a new way to erase chains, and also turn chaining on and off so you can loop one pattern to edit it without playing the entire song. Then there might be requests for a way to edit chains..
All these features are bound to end up on un-intuitive forgettable button combos and slowly erode the clean ease of use originally intended.
-
@RSP - you don't have to build them seperately, you can shift-select multiple sequencers to apply the chain to
-
Please have a look on the manual page 49:

Awesome, thanks, that's great to hear. That wasn't clear from the video demo or changelog and I hadn't had a chance to sit alone with it much since upgrading, I've only used it at practices since then so trying the new features was kind of haphazard.
Really happy with the latest firmware, other than the step one gate bug I described earlier it seems really solid and the new features are well implemented.
-
Arturia Thank you for the updates! But yes, you should make it possible to save chains! thanks
-
+1 on saving pattern chains!
-
-1 or if you add this feature please add an option to turn it off completely.

I understand your point Steinberger, so a choice to save a project with or without pattern chained, is the best option for us all. Some of us need an arrangement playing in the background, to focus on our live performances. That could be another instrument or as a vocalist.
-
Or use a regular linear sequencer (like the ones in every daw and workstation synth) to record your chains and play them back using it, freeing your BSP for you to create more inspired, spontaneous patterns to chain.
Multitrack sequencers from the 80's and 90's are easy to find second hand and cheap, if you need one to create songs from your patterns. I'd recommend the Kawai Q80. Very easy to program, nothing too complex. They go for under $150us, they are tough and have decent sized on-board memory and can record and sequence upto 32 tracks. You will need 3.5" floppies though. And be careful not to loop midi info into, out of, then back into it for over 5min while it is recording. Not good to do that to it.
Don't want Song Mode. I am Song Mode.
Word.

ok, I re-bumb this thread. Why aren't Arturia interested in a simple option to save a pattern chain in a project? :( Yes, I'd love to see a song arranger in Midi control center, but I'd be content with saving pattern chains in projects.
But if it's caused by some hardware limitation, then please let us know ;)
-
+1 for pattern chain saving!
-
I am surprised and disappointed that you cannot chain sequences into a song and save. I would not have purchased the BeatStep Pro if I had been aware it was limited to live sequencing. I didn't realize anyone would make a piece of gear with this level of limitation or I would have read more carefully before purchasing.
Will this issue be addressed in future updates... or is Ebay my next stop?
-
+1 for saving with chained patterns option available in MCC from next firmware update. I really love this sequencer. Its easy enough to clear patterns but I hate having to write down my chains if I want to remember them.
-
+1 for pattern chain saving!
Even better if you could have more than one sequence saved.
I could have 16 places to save, no editor, could
only overlap.
-
+1 for saving pattern chains
-
Another vote for saving Chained Patterns please, I combine improvising with structured song material. I would really like to have that extra hand for playing other instruments. Thank you Arturia!
-
+100 For pattern chain save option. A song mode is a must for v1.5
-
Hi Arturia people and forums folks.
Can anyone explain why saving chains is not on the menu for future uppgrades? Technical problems? Gonna be a feature in future products? Etc.. I am really curious.
Seems so logical to implement, and so logical for musicians to be able to save song structures before gigs etc etc..
I also find it logical that Arturia, with their physical product (prob costing a lot to develop) , can expand the usage with a bit of programming, and thereby make it 'industri standard' and draw even more customers with (relative) small develop cost.
Getting a rumour for listening to their customers, and doing what's in their power to fix/break obstacles is not a bad company strategy. Especially in the long run...
But, if there is a fundamental hinder for making the save option available, then customers will understand.
Arturia: Please elaborate.

Okay, BSP doesn't have song mode and costs aprox. $249usd.
Social Entropy Engine has 8 polyphonic tracks as well as a pattern chaining function. The base model has no cv outputs. The cv-expanded bundle cost $790usd.
Sequentrix Cirklon boasts 64 tracks (4 banks of 16 tracks usable at once) with polyphonic pattern capabilities and realtime recording. Again no cv interface on the base model but does have 5 MIDI ins and outs. The Cirklon + CVIO breakout is aprox. $1,448usd.
Squarp Pyramid is a polyphonic 64 track sequencer with a song mode. I can record in step-mode or realtime. Come with 2 CV in/outs and 2 trig in/outs on top of MIDI and dinsync. The Pyramid is $635usd.
Korg SQ-1 is a 2 track step sequencer with no song or chain mode, simple cv and gate out and a minijack MIDI out. It costs about $99usd.
Now, there are some other step-sequencers (two actually full blown sequencers with a step-record mode, like my QY700, my Q70 and my M1). Do you notice anything similar about the ones with song mode/pattern chain mode?
-
Yes.
And more the reason for BSP to become 'industry standard', cleaning the table..
Think volume / profit with relative low cost to achive. But thats for Arturia to figure out in the end.
Im just guessing after seing the potential in an already cool product, with a great rep for value/money. Taking future steps by listening to what musicians miss in BSP could only manifest its position.

Glen Darcy of Arturia mentioned on BeatPPL podcast about Drumbrute, that the guy who worked with the sequencer for Drumbrute, was also involved in the Beatstep pro sequencer. He said that Arturia would focus on new functions for Beatstep pro, once Drumbrute goes into production! I have high hopes now... ;)
-
looks like we might be getting it
if you watch the sonic state video on the matrixibrute from namm 2017
pattern chain saving was mentioned in a upcoming firmwear update
from 2.15 onwards

+1 just bought a beatstep pro to sequence a drum machine & minitaur live on the basis I saw in the marketing blurb you can chain patterns but found out by reading the manual you can't save them. Fingers crossed this will make it to the next firmware update!

+1!
Very frustrating not being able to save chains = "hick-up" in the work flow....

am i wrong or did they include this in the last update?! :D
Thank you arturia!

Your right they did include it
